Wilderness First Aid (WFA) & Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Classes
Feral Human Expeditions is proud to have accredited SOLO wilderness medicine instructors available to teach Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and Wilderness First Responder (WFR). SOLO is one of the most recognized and longest running wilderness medicine schools in the world providing classes all over the country and internationally.
Whether you paddle the Everglades, hike the AT, travel internationally, are an outdoor leader, or are preparing for the next natural disaster, this class is for you. The knowledge you gain through one of these courses could prove invaluable in an emergency situation, and here at FHE we believe in being properly trained and prepared.

Wilderness First Aid
WFA is a two day course focusing on the basic skills of: Response and Assessment, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Environmental Emergencies, Survival Skills, Soft Tissue Injuries, and Medical Emergencies. You can find a complete list of course topics on the SOLO website here. CPR is available for most classes as a $35 add-on and will be taught in an evening after regular class.

WFR Recertification
Those who need to refresh their WFR certification can do so in this class. This is a 16 hour recertification course focusing on the review of all WFR skills and is the preferred method of refreshing a WFR. The WFR must be refreshed within 3 years of the original WFR or the previous refresher.
If you are unable to attend a WFR recertification course, you may refresh your WFR during a two day WFA or WFAA course.
CPR is available as a $35 add on and will be taught after regular class time in the evening of the first day of instruction. Current CPR certification is required to refresh a WFR, but it does not have to be done with us.

Additional Information
Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive WFA/WFR certification from SOLO.
We teach in a variety of settings and environments. Be prepared to spend most or all of the class time outside and please bring appropriate clothing for the time of year and course location.
Bring everything you would normally bring on a trip. Sleeping bags, pads, tents, clothes, trekking poles, back packs, rope, etc. will be useful. The point of this class is to teach you how to use your own equipment and think outside the box for effective patient care. If you don’t have something, we do not expect you to buy it just for the class.
Stipends are available for some organizations and small businesses that meet the minimum class size of 12 full paying students. If you are interested in hosting a class, contact us here.
Wilderness First Responder
WFR is an eight day course recognized as the industry standard for outdoor leaders. WFR is great for those wanting a higher level of preparedness in a wilderness or disaster setting. This course covers everything from the WFA but in more detail, with a greater level of patient care, and some additional topics. CPR is included in the WFR. Wilderness First Aid Afloat
The Wilderness First Aid Afloat (WFAA) curriculum includes nearly all the same topics as the standard WFA while adding topics of special interest to boaters such as marine bites and stings, sea sickness, and other injuries common in marine environments. Practice scenarios will be tailored to be more relevant to paddlers, sailors, and anyone who spends time on or near the water.
WFAA meets all requirements of the United States Coast Guard for a Wilderness First Aid Course, is listed as an approved course and curriculum by the USCG, and meets ACA guidelines.
CPR is available as a $35 add on and will be taught after regular class time in the evening of the first day of instruction.

Wilderness First Aid - Elephant Valley Project, Cambodia
If you spend time in areas where medical attention is far away or unavailable then this class is for you. International travelers, outdoor leaders, field researchers, guides, and anyone else wanting a higher level of preparedness in an emergency situation will benefit from this training.

Price includes a visit with the elephants, lodging in the EVP bungalows, all meals from lunch on day 1 to lunch on day 3, course fees, and WFA certification.
